Designing our magazine advert (ancillary task)

These are the hand drawn idea's of creating one of our ancillary tasks - a magazine advert. We wanted our ancillary tasks and promo to flow together so came up with the idea of using the t-shirts within our video and put it in our magazine advert.

We would simply use the programme Photoshop CS6 to create this by layering images on top of each other to become effective.

Therefore, the image below is something we are trying to have for the first layer as it flows with our actual promo and something that looks effective and refers to the song.

We would then simply just put a picture of Jack (the actor in the promo) on top of the t-shirts image by simply deleting the background image of the person. He would be displaying a sign with the actors name and as you can see the t-shirts spell out the word 'FUN' - the song title. Something that advertises the artist and song.

We would then finish by creating advertisments such as 4Music and a Facebook page for commercial purposes.

starting putting the magazine cover together...

the pictures below show the t-shirts that are going to used within our advert. I have edited the pictures so they have no background so it is easier to overlap pictures easily

*practice takes*...

using random images of t-shirts off google, I have practiced using Photoshop and how the t-shirts will be placed on the first layer - this is by cropping each image and placing them in a random order

the final designs...

* t-shirt background *

  • I had to crop each t-shirt individually due to the white background behind them. This made it easier for the t-shirts to overlap and look effective - we were trying to get across that the t-shirts were 'thrown' on the floor in an random order but effectively spelling out the song title somewhere. One idea I had was the idea of fading them slightly but once playing around with the contrast, the shirts looked effective when the colour contrast was boosted. This is something that changed for the better as now the layer on top will stand out more.

layer of Jack holding the artists name to overlap the t-shirt background*

  • Once again I had to crop around the picture first so I had the basic outline to work with when placing it on top of the previous layer. This is basically promoting the artist as he is the main focus in the cover. He's overall body language is shown as a bit 'scruffy' and lazy - something that promotes the music video also. This was found difficult as I still had to crop the picture when placed over the image but it worked effectively as shown by the image below

This is the look Jack and I were trying to create for our advert - something simple yet effective.

With this in mind, the only thing we need to add is the audience information such as tour dates, networking sites etc to make this a successful magazine advert.

I think the overall idea is successful due to it linking together with our promo well and something that will stand out if seen.
